A crown is like a cap for the tooth in order to strengthen it and restore it to its normal shape and size. Crowns are sometimes made of metal, but we can make them out of durable ceramic that has been colored to match the rest of your smile.
If a tooth has been lost altogether, a pair of crowns and an artificial tooth can be combined to form a bridge to fill the gap. The crowns on either end are normally placed on healthy teeth, but dental implants can be used instead for replacing three or more teeth in a row.
Instead of gold or mercury, we can fill in a cavity using composite resin – a special plastic and glass mixture that has been colored to blend in with tooth enamel. The material is placed and hardened by a special light in layers; unlike metal fillings, this process doesn’t normally require the removal of any healthy tooth structure. In many cases, composite resin even helps support the tooth and prevents it from breaking later down the line.
